ATACAN PRIVATE PRIMARY SCHOOL SEMEP PROJECT “EMERGENCY HOMES”

ATACAN PRIVATE PRIMARY SCHOOL SEMEP PROJECT “EMERGENCY HOMES”

As Private Atacan Primary School, on 27 May we participated in the project on “Global action in climate change; energy saving, water saving and industrial recycling" with two of our students representing our team.

We had formed our project team since the end of the 1st semester and carried out many different studies to instil environmental awareness, and sensitive behaviours in our students. We designed two posters, one in Turkish and one in English according to the instructions and study dates. We guided our students to create an environment where they could discuss key issues such as global climate change, energy conservation, industrial recycling and technology and put their conclusions on paper; to reveal designs which would improve their visual perceptions, summarize, reveal, and colour the project with a slogan in line with their work, and produce posters.

Our poster presentations could not be made due to the earthquake disaster in our country. After the earthquake, our project team redesigned their projects since our country was an earthquake-prone country. “If we have an emergency bag, why don’t we have an emergency house? Can’t it be built?” based on these questions, they designed the self-sufficient “Emergency Houses” project. A model of these houses, created outside the municipality by the center, produces its own electricity, purifies its own water, farms in the garden, and meets the needs of tens of people in emergencies, called an “Emergency Depot". We shared our project presentation digitally and were prepared for the project day. On the project day, we verbally introduced our “Emergency Houses” project to the members of the jury. On that same day, we exhibited the posters we had prepared in the exhibition area.

As the Private Atacan Primary School, we were entitled to receive the “Most Creative Work" award on UNESCO-SEMEP day.
